A home invasion uncovers a conspiracy that threatens to overthrow a nationwide criminal enterprise.
For Marco Salazar, it was supposed to be a routine home invasion. Except, as he learned, there's no such thing. With the help of his longtime friend, Antonio Esposito - the soft-spoken wingman - and his pizzeria-owning uncle, Amelio "Big Sal", Marco's journey for righteousness for his falsely imprisoned father, Bartolo, leads them through the suburbs of Boston. A string of home invasions leaves the trio just shy of having the money needed for Bartolo's defense attorney's retainer, and they've saved their prime target for last. But even the target - a 1941 Victorian in a quiet neighborhood in Stoneham - has secrets trapped deep within its walls, and unlocking them might unravel a whole new world that has its own set of rules. And the players who loom in the shadows are ruthless, with its net stretching even wider than anyone could imagine. Nobody can be trusted.
And that's only the beginning.
What the secrets may reveal could tear down an underground criminal enterprise, and it threatens to destroy everything that Marco has worked for. Families will be torn apart, bonds will be broken, and faith in one another will be put into question. All the while, the clock is ticking on Bartolo. And if Marco somehow makes it out alive, his life will be changed forever.
Operation Salazar Dan Lawton Books
After reading Dan Lawton's first novel "Deception" I was excited to learn that this book would be coming out, and hoped that it would be a strong second work after a very impressive first.Dear reader, I was not disappointed. Nor will you be if you read this book.
The story revolves around two young men trying to recover a stolen statue from the former home of one young man's family, a home lost to foreclosure. Unfortunately before the statue can be retrieved, New owners move in and all sorts of complications arise.
The plot is well thought out, with plenty of unexpected twists and turns that will keep you guessing

There are three primary characters in Operation Salazar Marco Salazar, his uncle, Big Sal, and Marco's best friend Antonio Esposito. None are criminals until Marco's dad, Bartolo is imprisoned for a crime he claims he didn't commit. Then their lives change forever.
The pace of the plot is fast and exciting, but at times it stretched credibility and felt contrived in order to keep the story going.
Character development is good but the constant use of worn out clichés got tiring.
There are surprises galore among the twist and turns as police get involved with the victims of a home invasion that evolves into the very basis for the whole story. That led to conflict between the home owners and the emotional damage inflicted on the couple by the actions of the Salazars who are focused only on freeing Bartolo from prison.
The ending was a complete surprise and exposed Bartolo for what he truly was.
Then there's the bad news. Editing is abysmal. There are far too many word errors including missing, extra, misspelled and words used incorrectly.
The writing style is extremely wordy, clunky and repetitive.
Research is sorely lacking. At one point when Jen is out running her belly stored air as she ran. Isn't that what lungs are for? At a pawn shop, paintings by Warhol, Picasso and Van Gogh occasionally hang on the walls for sale. That's a much higher class pawn shop than the description painted it. The barrel of a revolver can't be spun, that's the cylinder.
The story is written in present tense and must be ninety percent narrative; a voice like an invisible bystander gives info dumps about everybody as if it were a stage manager directing all the characters and explains in too much detail why events are happening and what's going on in people's minds.
Continuity is lacking, as when Marco drew his pistol then drew it again a few minutes later.
The story is in dire need of two editors. The first to correct punctuation and grammar; the second to improve the creative writing aspect by editing out the superfluous words and phrases and improving sentence structure and gaping flaws in the plot itself.
I've stretched the rating to a three star because in spite of the magnitude of errors the plot did hold my interest.

Vigilant Reader Book Reviews.
There are moments in the book when the action is suspenseful and the pacing exciting, and some of the interactions among the characters are believable, but the many spelling errors and mis-used and strange words ("lonelily"? "adjacently"?) distracted me from the story. I had a hard time believing all of the coincidences (the couple showing up at the exact pizzeria owned by the uncle; Jen finding the hole in the wall the very next morning after the first incident), and the fact that the friends kept returning to the scene of the crime, taking chance after chance. The storyline of the breakup of a marriage is recognizable and sad, and there is minimal swearing and no overt sexuality, which I appreciated as those elements are distracting in a story and often unnecessary. With a little more careful editing, reduction of redundancies and cliches, and tightening up of the storyline, this writer could be quite good, as he is a good storyteller and there were enough surprises and twists to keep me reading.
I'm still reading this but so far so good. I love stories about Boston.
Grabbed me right from the beginning- great plot, great character development- if you enjoy good crime drama, don't miss this book!
After reading Dan's first book, Deception, I couldn't wait to start reading this one. I enjoyed all the characters and loved the dynamic between Marco, Sal and Antonio. They did anything they had to for love. Excellent book. Couldn't wait to get back to reading it when I had the chance. I can not wait for more books to come from this up and coming author.
Good plot. Be!ievable enough. Too many grammatical errors (ie The Winston's when it should be Winstons). Get a better editor and keep doing your thing!
Just finished Operation Salazar, the second book by Dan Lawton. It was outstanding! Did not want to put it down, I found myself longing to find out more, so I had to keep reading. The character development was excellent, the plot was filled with twists and turns and the story line was so believable. Dan weaved the many characters into an excellent crime story. I was sorry to get to the end, I want more from this author. It was just so good.
