Alexis had big dreams all her life and worked hard to make them happen. A dream job at NASA, a loving husband, and a beautiful baby boy. Then one day, several years later after raising a perfectly normal family, with no warning or reason, her husband, Jay, of twelve years commits suicide. Her son, Colton, goes into denial and blames his mother; Alexis is forced to bury herself in her work. Shortly after, NASA allows her to be one of the crew members aboard the space shuttle. Her victory is short-lived, however, when she finds out she has breast cancer. As her health declines, Colton delves into the dangerous circumstances of his father's death and learns there are many more secrets to his family's life. Will they ever find out the truth? Or maybe, it's a little too late.

Family Secrets Donna Zadunajsky 9781364966379 Books Reviews
This is a heart wrenching read in many respects. Very emotional to read and written really well. It contained emotions, both with the breast cancer and the mum and son relationship, and a mystery which was solved satisfactorily. A book that will go on my TBRA (to be read again) . It has been hard to move onto another book after reading this. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and hope to read more of this author.
"Family Secrets" shows us that the perfect family is not forever. The bad things can happen to them as well, as we can find out that Alexis' husband, Jay, commits suicide, and she is the one to blame in her son's eyes. And this is not the end. She finds out that she has breast cancer and her father's death brings to the surface several family secrets. All in all, you shouldn't rely on the fact that bad won't happen to you. It will come when you expect least, and one bad thing doesn't come alone, they come not in pairs, but in a herd.
You need to read all the books in the series, in order to truly enjoy it, but I guarantee that you will not regret it. It has it all mystery, suspense, why not crime. I will definitely keep and eye out for another book from Donna M. Zadunajsky, since she became one of my top favorite writers.
An interesting book
Repetitive, in that it repeats itself. I listened to the audio book, which has good production values, and found myself talking back to it "Yes, we know already...." I guessed most plot twists as much as two chapters ahead of time until I began to think this was an attempt to hit all the basic tropes. It misses two that I expected. Oh, well, you can't win 'em all. The novel hits working Mom guilt pretty hard, as the main character feels that she could have been a better mother/wife if only she had not followed her heart to be an astronaut.... This is not a spoiler. The reader told this on page one. Passages on breast cancer (again, page one) are moderately researched but show gaffs in the way the medical profession is displayed. I most definitely do not want my doctor to explain treatment after administering an anesthetic. Recovery from addictive behaviors is treated flippantly. I wish the author well-- keep trying!
IT WAS A LITTLE REPETITIOUS TO START BUT AROUND THE MIDDLE IT STARTED GETTING BETTER. HER SECOND BOOK CAUGHT ME IN THE FIRST PAGE. BUT AFTER THIS STORY STARTED GOING I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END.
